Reviews: I highly recommend Maison Troglodyte - it is a delightful vacation rental. We spent a week here in June, and could not have asked for more. The house is charming, with a fascinating history. It is equipped with all necessities and has the best view in the entire village from the large patio. Just sitting on the patio would be a perfect vacation, but both the village and the surrounding area have many interesting sites and great restaurants that should not be missed. France Bound, was a pleasure to work: they made the entire planning process very easy and went out of their way to see that all details were taken care of. The local house manager could not have been more helpful, friendly or interesting. After renting several houses, I highly recommend this one for a unique and trouble free vacation. S. Carter. Local Information
Local Info:
La Roque-Gageac is one of the exceptional villages that has been officially classified as 'one of the most beautiful villages in France'. Unoccupied since pre-historic times, people began to populate this village and build settlements during the first to fourth centuries. The threat from Vikings from around the ninth century forced the villagers to seek shelter and build fortifications on the safer, northern side of the river from which most of the ancient settlements still stand today. This virtually impregnable village also served as a military stronghold during the 100 years war in the 14th and 15th centuries.
